Half a million parcels a day - festive period at InPost Group
15 December 2016
The pre-Christmas period is a busy time for logistics operators, especially those focusing on the e-commerce sector. Last Monday - 12 December - InPost recorded a record volume and accepted half a million courier and parcel post parcels and e-commerce registered letters for distribution. This is a much better result than that achieved during this year's Black Friday, when there were 'only' 370,000 items. Consumers have fallen in love with online shopping and a real record can be expected to be set in the last pre-Christmas week. InPost's response to the increase in demand for modern logistics services will be the installation of 1,000 new Parcel Machines® in 2017.
Every year during the festive period we record a peak in parcels, but this year we have a real record, there are 150 % more parcels compared to December 2015. We have prepared particularly carefully for this year's parcel summit. In September, we moved into the most modern sorting plant in Poland , we have employed nearly 1,500 additional people and are constantly expanding our the Parcel Machine network, which currently numbers 2,150 machines . The e-commerce market is growing incredibly fast in Poland, and few people want to wait in line at the post office or at home for a courier The majority of consumers want to become permanently independent of these restrictions. Our response to this demand is A parcel machine that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - Rafał Brzoska, CEO of Integer.pl Group, said.
In the run-up to Christmas, InPost also released a new feature and using Polish Paczkomaty you can send a parcel directly to Paczkomaty in the UK, Czech Republic and Slovakia. To most of the other 15 EU countries, you can send a parcel at a Paczkomat or InPost's own branch.
We are introducing new services, but We are aware that during the festive period some Parcel Machines may be overcrowded, which may cause delays. We therefore urge our customers to buy Christmas presents at least one week before Christmas . I can promise that this year we will be distributing parcels until the last hour before Christmas Eve and we will do everything to ensure that the Christmas presents reach the recipients. - announced Rafał Brzoska.
Taking into account forecasts predicting that Polish e-commerce will continue to grow dynamically in the coming years, InPost will install another thousand new Paczkomats in Poland in 2017. "At the same time, it is worth noting that the Polish network of Paczkomaty is already the largest business structure of this kind in the world - emphasised Rafał Brzoska.
