InPost begins testing electric e-Crafter as part of InPost fleet
5 June 2019
InPost, in cooperation with the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand, is starting to test the electric Crafter. The car is driving in InPost's Warsaw fleet. The company is already using electric cars in Kraków, and by 2020, 30% of InPost's fleet will be made up of eco-friendly electric cars.
"We focus on innovation in every aspect - not just in terms of Parcel Machines. ® and their functionality, or efficient and fast courier deliveries. We are also investing in the infrastructure to handle the rapidly growing volumes of our shipments. We are commissioning three new sorting plants and expanding our car fleet. The fleet of electric cars is part of our competitive advantage and fits into the modern policy of sustainable transport in cities. Today, no postal or courier company is still thinking about such solutions - we are the first to demonstrate social responsibility and know how important pro-environmental measures should be as a business contribution to citizens. Especially in the face of such rapidly progressing environmental degradation and the growing problem of smog in Polish cities." - Rafał Brzoska, CEO of InPost, said.
"The e-Crafter - equipped with a 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor - is the first car in the electric vehicle range of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand. The debut of the Crafter with electric drive is only the beginning of an offensive in the field of zero-emission commercial vehicles. In the coming months, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be supplementing the range with further electric models that are ideal for modern urban logistics. Our aim is to make electric cars no longer niche and available to all customers. The e-Crafter has a range of 173 km (measured according to the NEDC standard) - which corresponds to the real everyday needs of companies that operate in cities. The e-Crafter was developed precisely for companies such as InPost - which are involved in parcel delivery. The vast majority of cars in such companies drive between 70 and 100 km a day. It is worth adding that the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand, as part of the Volkswagen Group Polska, is intensively involved in the development of infrastructure enabling easy and fast charging of electric cars. In the next 12 months, around 900 chargers of various powers will be built within the Group's dealer network. Around 350 of these will be available to the public - including around 190 semi-fast and fast DC chargers and 8 ultra-fast chargers with 320 KW. Most of these will be built by the end of this year." - emphasises Piotr Gomuła of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
