InPost Manaslu 2019 Expedition : Third Polish woman to conquer two eight-thousanders in one year?

Magdalena Gorzkowska - Polish mountaineer and Himalayan climber - on 8 September 2019 began her expedition to Manaslu in Nepal as part of the InPost Manaslu 2019 Expedition. From 1 to 5 October, she will attack the eighth-highest peak on Earth. Manaslu is the third eight-thousander in 16 months that Magdalena Gorzowska will conquer. It is also her second eight-thousander conquered without supplementary oxygen this year, after Makalu. So far, only two Polish women - Wanda Rutkiewicz and Kinga Baranowska - have managed such a feat. InPost is the main sponsor of the expedition.

Manaslu is Magdalena Gorzkowska's third summit on her way to conquering the entire Crown of the Himalayas and Karakorum. She will be climbing with Pemba Sherpa Lama - experienced Himalayan climber - and together they will make their way through the trek to the summit.

"Just like Magda, we want to climb to the heights of our capabilities and set ourselves more and more difficult challenges. To climb an eight-thousand-metre mountain, you have to overcome your own weaknesses and limitations - InPost will always promote and support such an attitude. We firmly believe that Magda will fulfil her next dream and the InPost Manaslu 2019 Expedition will be a huge success not only for her, but also for Polish sport. Magda - we are keeping our fingers firmly crossed for you." - said Rafał Brzoska, CEO of InPost.

To date, Magdalena Gorzkowska's credits include Mount Everest and Makalu - the sportswoman conquered the world's highest peak as the youngest Polish woman. Magdalena became the first Polish woman to climb Makalu without an oxygen cylinder, thus becoming the second Polish woman to successfully summit the peak. In early 2019, she undertook to climb two eight-thousand-metre peaks - Makalu and Lhotse - in 14 days. After summiting Makalu, however, she had to abandon her attack on Lhotse due to frostbite on her fingers.

Magdalena Gorzkowska (born 30 April 1992 in Bytom) was an accomplished athlete and sprinter before starting her career as a Himalayan athlete. In 2011, she won silver at the European junior championships and a year later finished 20th in the 100 metres at the European senior championships. She participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics as a reserve in the 4 × 400 metres relay. National indoor runner-up in the 400 metres (Spała 2013) and gold medallist at the European Youth Championships (Tampere 2013).
