A courier's job isn't enough: 6 questions for dragon boat enthusiast Alexander
10 November 2019
W InPost we value each and every one of our employees, being aware of the important role played by couriers. In the context of the parcel summit, which involves us more and more each year, we are aware of the special effort that this area of our organisation puts into its work.
With today's interview, we continue our series in which we introduce you to the profiles of the couriers working with us, how they feel about working in this role and their wonderful passions. This time we are pleased to introduce Alexander - a fan of the unique sport of dragon boats! Olek has been working in the courier industry for seven years. What he likes best about his job courier ? What advice does he have for those starting out in the industry? Check it out!
How long have you been working at InPost? How do you recall your best day working for our company?
I have been working at InPost for 3 years. I don't know when it went by myself! The day I remember as the best was probably when I started on the APM route, which is when I started operating Parcel Machines.
What do you like best about your job as a courier?
Independence for sure, but also the opportunity to broaden your knowledge of the topography of the city and the surrounding area. It's a job where there's no room for boredom! I also like challenges and finding new solutions.
When you are not working, you ... ?
I pursue my passions for motoring and motorsport. I take great pleasure in modifying cars and testing their capabilities. I like to spend my free time actively, so whenever I can I ride my bike or train on dragon boats. It's a team sport, where the combination of each player and the right technique is important. Strength does not play the most important role. I can boast of being Polish champion in 2017, as well as participating in the European championships during the same period. This sport gives me immense satisfaction, mainly because I can clearly see how my commitment realistically translates into later results.
What does your standard working day look like?
I dutifully start my day with coffee. :) Then I go to the warehouse, where I check what number of shipments I should deliver on a given day. Based on this, I estimate what my working rhythm will look like. It all depends on the number of parcels to be delivered - it is known that during the peak period a standard working day looks a bit different than in other months. There are days when I load up the car, leave for the region and return after a certain hour with deliveries. Other days, on the other hand, I have to come to the warehouse twice to load the car and go to the region.
What would you wish for the next few years of cooperation?
Certainly further innovations to make work easier! Of course, light packages and higher earnings would also be welcomed by me.
What would you advise people who are starting out as a courier?
Above all, not to be discouraged by setbacks that may occur in the beginning. It is worth cooperating with clients, showing patience, but also 'not letting yourself get in over your head'.
Thanks for the interview!
We congratulate Olek on his success so far and wish him more! 😊
