Magda, Paczucha and the expedition to the Roof of the World

Hi, it's Paczucha! Together with Magda Gorzkowska I am currently climbing the highest peak in the world. I'll tell you a bit about our expedition, because there's a lot going on! Sometimes there are chilling moments and moments that take your breath away....

We set off from Kathmandu on 10 April. From the Nepalese capital we flew to Lukla, one of the most dangerous airports in the world (a 400-metre runway over a precipice, ending in sharp rocks - sounds scary, right?). Once there, we walked from village to village for a week. As we ascended to higher and higher altitudes, we began to feel the harsh weather conditions. Fortunately, we were accompanied on the way to Everest Base Camp by local Yaks who carry local goods.

At Base Camp we prepare for the journey ahead. We are training and resting in the company of an international group of Himalayan climbers with whom we plan to conquer the eight-thousander together. Wondering what life is like at Base Camp? Each participant has their own tent - even me :)! We eat our meals together in the so-called Mesa. While waiting for the stopover camps on the route to be prepared, we practise, among other things, on the so-called Icefall. Descents, jumar climbs, ladder crossings are our daily routine!

Every training session prepares us for the extreme conditions on the Roof of the World. The expedition will not be easy, so we are trying with all our might to reach perfection in every activity we do - me especially in resting ;). Let's hope it pays off! We will definitely spend some more time at Base Camp. We're glad you're with us and hope to cheer you on on this amazing expedition.
