Parcel machines® have overtaken postal delivery as the preferred delivery method for e-commerce purchases

Paczkomaty® InPost are the second most popular form of receiving online purchases, have overtaken postal deliveries and are targeting deliveries of courier which are still in first place, according to the latest report 'E-commerce in Poland 2016'. Parcel machines® are particularly popular among young people (66% of their users are aged 25-34) and those with a secondary or higher education (46%). The report was prepared by Gemius for e-Commerce Poland, the Chamber of Electronic Economy.

This is the next edition of the report, which describes, among other things, customers' familiarity with e-shops from different industries, customer behaviour when selecting and buying products, sources of information to support shopping, trends in the interpenetration of the online and offline commerce worlds.

The future of e-commerce in Poland

The report is very comprehensive, but from the point of view of the future of e-commerce in Poland, one of the most important pieces of information is on the preferences of the ways in which e-commerce purchases are received. Paczkomaty® have been well received by customers and, within a fairly short time after their launch, have become a valued alternative to previous delivery methods.

"There are several reasons for the growing popularity of Parcel Machines®, and all of them are organically linked to the advantages they offer over other modes of collection (couriers or ordinary postal deliveries). When using a Parcel Machine®, there is no need to queue at the post office or wait at home for a courier. In the survey, a question was asked about the motives for shopping online: in the first three places, customers mentioned the 24-hour availability of the machine, not having to travel to a shop and prices being more attractive than in traditional shops. Parcel machines® are also available 24 hours a day and reaching them is often shorter than driving to a shop. This is the result of the location analyses we have carried out and the ability of customers themselves to report new, convenient locations for Parcel Machines®." - Rafał Brzoska, founder and CEO of Integer.pl Group.

Among the information about Parcel Machines® presented in the report, one can find such interesting facts as the quantitative advantage of men over women as people who like logistical novelties when receiving parcels. However, among the factors that increase interest in online shopping, the possibility of easy returns via Parcelcomat® is of greater importance precisely for women.

"Of course, we would like Paczkomaty® to become the number one way of receiving e-commerce parcels, but we are looking at the market realistically. Although we have an extensive network of points in Poland, there is still room for expansion and we continue to receive enquiries from various towns and cities in Poland as to when Paczkomaty® will finally come to them. That is why this year and only in Poland we will increase our network of Paczkomaty® machines to 4800," emphasises Rafał Brzoska.

He adds that the company also promotes them as a safe and cheap way to send back a product that does not meet expectations. "To put it into perspective: the scale of growth, technological innovation and new business ideas emerging around our devices provide customers with far greater opportunities to receive parcels conveniently and securely, and far greater growth potential for our business than traditional delivery methods.
