Beware of fake news
9 May 2016
How do you recognise them? Fake news contains:
- in the case of e-mails - attachment in *.txt format - do not open it!
- in the case of both emails and SMS, a link to a page that requires the recipient to send a paid SMS to "retrieve parcel information". Sending a text message charges £30 to the scammers' account.
If you have received a fraudulent email, please send it as an attachment (important: not via the "forward" option) to the following address [email protected] . Thank you to all those who have already done so!
Following a number of questions, we would also like to inform you that:
- The YouTube song links found in both the fake and original messages are NOT attachments - clicking on them does not risk infecting your computer with a virus.
- InPost never requires users to send a paid SMS. The only exception is the option to extend the stay of a parcel in a Parcel Machine, which you can read about in the article How do I extend the deadline for parcel collection at a Parcel Machine?
