We deliver parcels on time - Operations and Logistics Department.
12 September 2019
Operations and Logistics Department is the heart of every courier company. This is where the complex processes take place to get packages to their recipients as quickly as possible.
Although everyone orders online at least a few times a month, few are aware of the logistical processes that the pressing of the 'buy' button initiates. The complicated journey of the parcel begins - first from the shop to the delivery branch and then to the destination branch. If the route of the parcel is long, it may still end up at the Central Sorting Plant on the way before the destination branch. It is the skill and organisation of the entire Operations and Logistics Team that determines the satisfaction of customers who eagerly await the courier or a text message about a parcel waiting in a Parcel Machine.
Courier service coordinator - the ground is good logistics
The courier service coordinator is a bit of an "orchestra man". - he or she must be an excellent strategist, planner and at the same time a great expert in the topography of a given city or region . This is because his task is to plan courier routes and ensure that they are staffed and profitable. In short, the courier's route should be planned in such a way that the parcels are delivered as quickly as possible, without covering unnecessary kilometres, and at the same time he manages to collect as many deliveries as possible. The coordinator has to set and control task schedules for dispatchers and the entire courier team, as well as check the effectiveness of deliveries and collections in the subordinate area. He or she is therefore responsible for the overall performance of the courier service and the degree to which daily plans are implemented. Experience in courier, forwarding or logistics companies is definitely useful for this position, as the ability to plan and account for courier routes must be preceded by an in-depth knowledge of the work of the courier and dispatcher. The earnings of a courier service coordinator are usually very good, as it is an extremely absorbing and demanding job . He or she may also be promoted to a higher position in the structure, such as regional coordinator or courier service director
Dispatcher, master of planning and organisation!
Dispatcher, like the courier service coordinator, never complains of boredom. His job is also a very responsible one, as it depends on his commitment that all recipients receive their parcels on time . The main task of the dispatcher is to distribute orders to couriers and monitor the degree of completion of assigned tasks. On a daily basis, he has to keep records of standing and ongoing orders. Of course, that's not all - he also has to respond efficiently to emergency situations. The courier is ill? A replacement must be quickly planned for the route. The courier's car breaks down? You need to organise a replacement car and help with reloading the parcels at the nearest branch or hand over the parcels to other couriers. These are, of course, just a few examples of possible operational problems. Most importantly - don't lose your head and your cool! If someone would like to try their hand at this profession, they should look for a job as a dispatcher in, for example, Warsaw. Working in a big city always adds an adrenaline rush!
Warehouse manager
While the coordinator and dispatcher take care of the parcels on the road, the warehouse manager is responsible for all warehouse operations and the management of the staff employed there. He must verify all shipments for packaging, weight and dimensions, and ensure that goods are loaded and unloaded in a timely manner. On an ongoing basis, it must control stock levels, verify the data entered into the system and check the status of individual deliveries. He is assisted in his work by warehousemen, who also take care of the proper functioning of the warehouse. As in the case of dispatchers, the Mazowieckie Voivodeship is an area where there are many job offers as a warehouse manager.
Working as a warehouseman
Warehousemen are tasked with taking care of shipments and catching the smallest inaccuracies or errors in sorting and assigning parcels to transports so that the entire delivery process can go smoothly. The work of a warehouseman often takes place under time pressure (after all, transporting parcels to branches cannot wait!), so good organisation is crucial in this profession. Other duties include carrying out cleaning and support work in the warehouse, as well as transporting parcel carriers with a forklift.
